The Setup

Every week we are in London, students will work in pairs to author a new blog entry. Pairings will rotate each week for the four weeks of our trip. Entries must have these four components:

Summary (400 words min.) of something relevant to History of Psychology (HoP)
Addition of at least one event to the HoP Timeline
Photo of either a travel experience or an image related to HoP
Web link relevant to either travel or HoP.

Our Idiosyncratic History of Psychology Timeline

1850 (Oct. 22) - Gustav Fechner discovers the "psychophysical measurement formula".

1859 (Nov. 24) - Charles Darwin’s, “On the Origin of Species” was first published. This was Darwin’s most famous and accredited book by discussing the long and difficult research he had to do to properly support his evolution theory (Benjamin, 2014).

1861 - Paul Broca discovers what we now know as Broca's area.

1879 - First publication from Wilhelm Wundt's Experimental Psychology lab is published at the University of Leipzig in Germany.

1883 - G. Stanley Hall opened the first psychology laboratory in America.

1894 - James McKeen Cattell was appointed owner and publisher of the journal Science.

1896- Witmer founded world's fist psychological clinic.

1903 - Walter D. Scott publishes his first book on a new field of psych The Theory of Advertising

1905 - Mary Whiton Calkins was named the first female president of the American Psychological Association.

1908 -- Margarget Floy Washburn's book The Animal Mind is published.
